Glacial Rose: The Little Mermaid by hypercrabby Glacial Rose: The Little Mermaid by hypercrabby
Worked on this during Christmas break and am rather pleased with how it turned out. The idea is Ariel is taking a winter vacation in the arctic seas.

This is a mixed media piece, beginning as a watercolor and then making the finishing touches with Photoshop.

Originally, I was going to enter a contest with this piece, but I ran out of time. Oh well, I am still content. contest or no. :D

Think she'd wear a fur parka? :confused: It gets cold up there without some blubber and fur, including for trim and fit mermaid princesses! :O

Well.... *puts on biologist monocle* it depends if we are considering her as a mammal. However, although her upper body is human, her lower half is fish. So, it could be that she is ectothermic ("cold-blooded"), which would allow her body temperature to vary as ambient temperatures change.

All of that aside, yeah, she is a princess, so she could have worn something different. ^^;

tl; dr

If mermaids were cold-blooded- which I'm inclined to think they're not considering how many mammalian features they share with humans- then they would come to a standstill in icy waters and freeze to death.

Dude, if you're going to bring up a hypothetical fantasy debate, at least read the response instead of being snarky.

I mean, in the series, Ariel does go to the arctic, shell bra and all.

Anywho, I hope you appreciate the art piece, as that is really what DA is all about.
